THE THING ITSELF
After reading the article from last week, I interpreted that "The Thing Itself" means that no matter how deceiving or confusing a photo may seem, it is not what it appears to be. This part of the assignment was very difficult for me, especially since I was not sure if I had a correct idea of what it meant. After taking this photograph I went and asked my roommates what they thought this was a picture of and luckily they said a blanket. However, it is a napkin. I think this is one example of how something may seem different from what it really is.

  1. I really like your "frame" picture. I love that the lamp is half in and out of the photo. Also, the lack of colors makes this photo really interesting! :)

  2. I like the "hand held night photography" picture. While I don't know what I'm looking at, it's still neat to see.

  3. Your "flash" picture was fascinating! I had to look twice at this picture. Then I realized it was a hand with fingers posed in a unique fashion! Very creative!

  4. I really like your detail image, being able to see all the different greens and detail in each blade of grass, while seeing the frost still covering the ground. Very neat!

  5. I really like your The Thing Itself picture. Upon first glance, it looks like, as you say, a blanket, or possibly a mattress pad. The fact that's a a napkin is very neat.

  8. my favorite is the frame. I like how it is off centered and you can not see the whole object

  9. Your handheld night photo is an interesting take on the idea. I could see you attempting to draw with light that way.

  10. I like the detail photo. I think it is really cool how you zoomed in on the grass which is something that people don't really see as beautiful.
